The Role

We have an opportunity for a chartered mechanical Associate Director, looking for technically challenging work on cutting-edge projects based in Leeds

In this role you will lead the Mechanical discipline both technically and with respect to the development of people in the Group; lead an M/MEP team on a portfolio of projects locally, nationally and internationally and have responsibility for the technical and financial performance of your projects. This will include liaising directly with clients on fees and commercial matters and, as part of your role; you will be a recognised focal point for client contact. Oversee total project delivery by enabling effective team management and delegation to ensure the efficient and satisfactory delivery of multiple and complex projects.

You will be part of the Group leadership and expected to contribute to work winning, lead projects and lead the strategic direction of the Mechanical team, understanding the wider impact on the Group, the Sector as a whole. This will involve interactive and collaborative working with colleagues throughout their multidisciplinary teams and across the Groups.

Key responsibilities:

• To take the lead role in the Mechanical discipline in the Group;
• Responsible for the recruitment, appraisal, performance, development, morale and motivation of mechanical staff within the Group;
• Responsible for overseeing the predicting and planning of future resources;
• Responsible for enhancing the capability and reputation of mechanical engineering in the Group internally and externally;
• To be able to act as PM or PD or MEP lead on major multi-disciplinary transportation projects where our client is lead consultant;
• Responsible and accountable for the overall design, technical delivery, quality and/or management of the M/MEP design of large, complex transport buildings, co-ordinating many different people, facilities and resources, within defined budget and timescales;
• Responsible and accountable for financial performance and client relations;
• Responsible for negotiating significant contracts with clients, customers and suppliers;
• Responsible for winning work – new and repeat business – and for making tactical commercial decisions affecting projects and business units;
• Responsible for setting and meeting agreed budgets with input to the Group operating plan; and
• Responsible for the development and implementation of plans for the long-term benefit of the Group and the firm in line with business strategy and contributing to the development of the business strategy.

About You

As a member of the Group leadership, you will have strong communication, organisational and negotiating skills and experience in leading successful project/office teams. You will be a team player capable of imparting knowledge and experience to other members of the team in order to facilitate their growth and development.

You will have strong commercial and client facing skills and be able to represent externally with a proven track record in the delivery of strategic business goals.

Skills and Capabilities

Essential:

• Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering;
• Chartered within an industry recognised institution;
• Good experience of designing mechanical building services;
• A thorough understanding of dynamic thermal modelling and familiarity with widely used software;
• Experience of designing sustainable buildings;
• Track record of developing best client value solutions by integrating all relevant disciplines;
• Knowledge of appropriate legislation and mechanical design guidance on transport building projects;
• Experience in developing the skills of other engineers through effective monitoring and coaching;
• Possess excellent communication skills including presenting and report writing;
• Extensive experience of leading large-scale and complex building projects;
• Proven track record of working on multiple projects concurrently;
• Experience of leading multi-disciplinary design teams including external sub-consultants;
• Extensive experience of managing scope and programme, dealing with multiple priorities, delivering high quality technical deliverables and achieving financial success for projects;
• Proven track record of:
o Business development and client management including building a network of internal and external collaborators and clients;
o Working with a range of clients and the ability to represent the company at a senior level;
o Leading the preparation and presentation of bids, and liaising directly with high-profile clients; and
o Strategic input into the development and direction of mechanical engineering within the Group.
