- ROLE SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Design Manager, the Lead Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for leading, directing, overseeing & ensuring a high standard of quality control in the production of electrical building services designs in accordance with business procedures and best industry practice. They will have an objective and proactive approach to interaction with both internal and external teams and building, maintaining and developing meaningful relationships with our stakeholders. They will act collaboratively and carry out their works in a professional and diligent manner.
The Lead Electrical Design Engineer shall be expected to travel to and work from client sites and other offices/sites as required to carry out their responsibilities to meet the overall objectives of the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Technical & commercial lead for the electrical design department.
• Provide strong technical leadership, knowledge & expertise within the electrical services sector.
• Monitor & control commercial aspects of each project ensuring compliance to project budget.
• Carry out sketch designs and calculations to assist in the Work Winning process.
• Lead & coordinate the electrical design team in the development of detailed designs, drawings and calculations using recognised software packages such as Hevacomp, Cymap, Amtech, DIALux, RELUX, Excel, AutoCAD and MEP Revit.
• To complete the electrical design process in line with business procedures, from initial inception at tender stage right through to completion / commissioning - with due regards to health, safety & environmental procedures and compliance with the Construction Design Management Regulations.
• To adhere to the design management procedures.
• To initiate and assist in the preparation and scheduling of all design drawings including the final sign off prior to customer/subcontractor issue.
• Undertake review of 3rd party MEPH design drawings with the Engineering Department prior to release to the customer and Operations teams.
• Ensure the designs meet relevant standards and customer requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National/International Standards and legislation, and contract specification/customers ERS.
• Attend CPD courses & maintain the required number of CPD hours in line with business procedures
• Employ the use of BIM / Revit – to Level 2 requirements on all public / private projects where possible.
• Carry out design calculation reviews of designs prepared by external Design Partners.
• Undertake Design Partner reviews and monitor the KPI scores received from Customer and from the client including the communication of these score and where necessary identify and implement remedial measures to improve the scores.
• Carry out works line with internal and external design document control process business procedures.
• Provide internal technical excellence through regular workshops, manufacturers presentations keeping up to date with innovative design solutions and practises.
• Ensure that the technical and manufacturers data library is kept up to date and disseminate information to the electrical design team.
PERSONAL QUALITIES:
• Significant Lead Design experience within MEPH sector preferably 3 years in similar position.
• Electrically biased but with a good knowledge of mechanical services.
• Degree educated or at least to HNC level in Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards it.
• Member of relevant institute, IET, CIBSE.
• Have a good understanding of current building regulations, SBEM, SAP, BREEAM, London Energy Strategy and the like.
• Ability to challenge traditional thinking and practices.
• Ability to manage a design team and a number of external Design Partners.
• Very personable character, with the ability to integrate into any business environment.
