The successful candidate will support the senior geotechnical team, representing the company with confidence to a variety of clients and external organisations. The ability to take initiative as well as working within part of a team within appropriate authority levels is vital, and the candidate will be well motivated, innovative and career minded. As a multi-disciplinary practice, there is also a need to integrate and work with other engineering fields within the business.
In keeping with the level of this role, the candidate will be experienced in the logging of trial pits and boreholes, in-situ environmental monitoring, scheduling of chemical contamination testing and interpretation of results in accordance with UK and European recognised guidelines, with good report writing skills. The role will include client liaison, design, interface with project teams, and contract implementation.
The candidate should have a first degree in appropriate subject, such as Geology, Civil Engineering or Environmental Science. An MSc in a subject such as Geotechnical Engineering is preferred, but not essential. Professional membership(s) are also preferred, but not essential. A good level of computer literacy in Windows and Microsoft Office software is required.
Main responsibilities:
- Involvement in and project management of a range of geo-environmental projects from desk studies to intrusive investigations of a variety of derelict and contaminated sites.
- Planning of intrusive works.
- Management of site operations and contractors, as well as the in-house team.
- Sample scheduling.
- Appreciation of geotechnical matters, such as foundation design, road pavement design, and ground improvement.
- Interpretation of chemical and geotechnical data.
- Interpretative reporting.
